The miracle of having twelve baskets leftover
Whether you are religious or not, there’s this remarkable miracle in the Bible known as the “Feeding of the 5,000”. For those unfamiliar with the story, Jesus miraculously feeds 5,000 people with only five loaves and two fish. Not only that, there were twelve baskets filled with food leftover. It seems impossible; hence, why it’s called a miracle.
The Feeding of the 5,000 is found in all four Gospels in the Bible, but one (John) highlights a detail that gives a new perspective to this miracle. In all other accounts of this story, it is merely stated that there are only five loaves and two fish. However, in John, it is said that it was a boy who provided the five loaves and two fish.
And this — this is the miracle: it was the boy’s utterly selfless act of giving EVERYTHING he had that transformed the hearts of others to give everything they had. Seeing that the boy gave without expecting anything in return, the others were inspired to do the same. It was only after they all gave everything they had that they then took what they needed. They found that they had more than enough to go around, resulting in twelve baskets leftover, ready to be consumed when they were hungry again.
Keeping to themselves, they thought they lived in lack. But when they shared amongst one another, it was clear that they lived in abundance.
